Un petit bonjour de la cote d'azur

Bonjour,

Students spent the week-end in Cannes, Nice and St-Jean Cap Ferrat. Their favorite city is definitively Cannes and its stars. Everybody feels like a star in Cannes and it might explain why students love it. Most of their time was spent shopping and tanning on the sand beaches since we visited the city when we came for the first time last week.
So, after a Friday in Cannes, students went to visit the "baie des milliardaires"where the boats of the ridiculously rich people are. Students were amazed by their size and beauty. Everybody was dreaming that evening. Those boats are some boats, absolutely amazing.

Saturday, we spent the day in Nice. In the morning, we visited the north side of Nice (Roman part). Students saw and learned the history of Nice and the belle epoque periode. They looked at fantastic buildings such as the Negresco and the Regina hotels dating from that period but also many other magnificent buildings. We also visited 2 museums "Chagall and Matisse", followed by a visit of the arena of Cimiez and the Roman baths of Celenelum. Students learned about how roads and buidings were built at the time.
They, then had 2 free hours for lunch and to explore in their own. In the afternoon, we went to visit the Greek side of Nice, the old city and the chateau build by the English. After a busy afternoon, we offered them an ice-cream (gelato) and again students went off for a good 3-4 hours for dinner. We returned from Nice around 10:30pm. Everybody was happy by then to go home. It was a very tirying day but students enjoyed it a lot.

Sunday, we went to St Jean Cap Ferrat. After a few hours at the beach to rest from the previous day, students went to visit la maison Rothschild, one of the richest person who ever lived on the French Riviera. Her house was so pretty that when she died, it became a museum since she did not have anybody to give it to. After the visit, another hour of free time was given to the students before leaving for Antibes. The evening was spent with their respective host family.

We are leaving for Paris Thursday. I will give you some more news before our departure.
Au revoir,

Encore des nouvelles d'Antibes

Hello again from Antibes,

Students resumed classes after the festivities of July 14th. They saw 2 French movies this week named "Les choristes" et "nos 18 ans". The first one is very good and was discussed in French class, the other was not but included some good cultural points like the French school system. Both movies were in French without subtitles which was very good for their comprehension. Most of the students understood them very well.

Tuesday, students went for a bike ride around the Cap d'Antibes. They enjoyed the ride and the vistas. They also spent part of the afternoon at the beach under our scorching sun. Students spent time with their host famillies. Easy and relaxing day.

Wednesday, after class in the morning where students learned about different genres of French music, students went to Vallauris, where Picasso stayed and worked on pottery and sculptures for many months. They took a sculpture and pottery class with a teacher. Some made great pieces which they took when we left. At night, students went out to see a movie in Antibes at the theater.

Thursday, students went kayaking and pedalboating on the sea for 2 hours. After the ride, they spent time relaxing in the lounge of the private beach, drinking cocktails and eating cakes. In the evening, students stayed home with their host famillies.

Today we returned to Cannes for the day like the students asked last week. Again, students spent time shopping and tanning at the beach. Tonight, we are going to see some of the biggest boats on the French Riviera on the "quai des milliardaires" at the port of Antibes. Students will then spend time in their own in the old city until 12:00am.

This weekend, excursions to Nice tomorrow and St Jean Cap Ferrat Sunday. I will let you know more next blog. Everybody is having a great time and a lot of fun.

Salut, a bientot

News fron Antibes

Bonjour a tous,

Students had a busy week end last week. Saturday, we all went to Cannes, the European Hollywood. They seemed to really enjoy it. Students visited the old city of the Cannet from which they had a fantastic view of Cannes and its surroundings. Students had free time in the morning and in the afternoon to go to the beach and shooping. They liked it so much that they asked me if we could go back, so I decided to take them back next Thursday. Saturday night, students had dinner in a restaurant on the beach in Juan les Pins. Students enjoyed it very much since having dinner with your feet in the sand and next to the Mediterrannean sea is not the ugliest place in the world. That was very pleasant.

Sunday, we took a private coach and went to Monaco, Monte-Carlo and the village perché d'Eze. Students visited the Cousteau Museum where they saw incredible fish from the Mediterannean and tropical seas (some of the most fantastic aquariums in the world) They also visited the cathedral where all the princes and their wives get married and burried, including Grace Kelly. They attented the change of the guards at the Palace of Monaco and then, went to eat in a parc with an amazing view on the sea. In the afternoon, the group went to Monte-Carlo with its casinos which they loved very much. They learned about the life of the Monegasques people and an incredible city where the Mercedes is consired "the car of the poor".
Later on, students drove to Eze, a village perché with the most incredible view of the French Riviera. The weather was perfect and I think they took the most amazing pictures of the Cote d'Azur. The evening was spent home after a very long day under the sun.

For Bastille day, July 14th, students got a free morning to sleep in. They needed it after a busy 1st week. In the afternoon, they were free to go to the beach or shopping. At night, we all went to party to celebrate our revolution of 1789. Students went to see a jazz concert in Juan les Pins, and attented the fireworks with were shot from the sea.

Today, we are going for a bike ride around the Cap d'Antibes, one of the most upscale part of the French Riviera and we will finish the afternoon with 2-3 hours of free time at the beach.

Students are having a great time and seem to enjoy themselves. They now know each other pretty well which shoud even increase the fun. Next blog should be Thursday.

Students arrived in sunny and beautiful Antibes

Bonjour a tous,

After a flight without trouble, we all arrived in beautiful Antibes on Tueday afternoon. Everybody got to his/her host family and spent their first night with their hosts. After a good night of sleep, students took their placement test and then got to the sandy beaches to work on their tan. They were taken to the top of Cap d'Antibes, one of the most secluded and hip place on the French Riviera. After an orientation given to students, they took pictures of the fantastic region where they are going to spend 2.5 weeks. The weather has been great - sunny and blue sky-. It has been in the high 80's but it's actually not bad thanks to the mistral wind which cools us off . The day finished with a pic-nic that the host families prepared for us. The food was great (pizzaladiere, goat cheese pizza, all kinds of pizza, quiches, salade antiboise and nicoise, regionaly grown fruits and French cakes). Everything was home made. I can tell you that a lot of people on the beach were jaleous and very hungry. The kids were very lucky.

Today, after a morning class where they studied the future tense through French music, they went to lunch in their own. Some of them experienced the South of France restaurants with their specialities. I suggested to students to do at least a few of them while they were in Antibes. In the afternoon, students got a guided visit of Antibes with a professional guide. They learned everything about the history of Antibes and got a walking tour of the city. Our guide was great even if when our kids started to suffer from jet lag in the afternoon. They finished their afternoon at the beach for 2 hours. The water is little cold because of the wind but it is so pretty. I am myself amazed every time I come back to Antibes. This region is sooo fantastic. Tonight, students are staying home with their host families.

Tomorrow, some will get to take a class on painting with a teacher and some will get to St Paul de Vence to see a beautiful village perche that artists love.

A bientot. A lundi.
